HTTP Client App Reviews

barely useful

Way too basic - this should not be a paid app. I just used this for 5 minutes and found 3 weaknesses that I cannot work around: -Can only save requests as files (messy!) -Cannot resize request body text area -No pretty formatting of json responses is a nail in the coffin. Im sure if I used it longer I would find more failures, but it is not worth my time. The FREE Dev HTTP Client Chrome app (no I am not the devoloper) is 100x better than this.

Super useful, just what I need

Ive been using HTTP client for what I think is about two years now. Its great. It makes it really easy to test and debug various services Im working on. One enhancement request: Instead of being one request per window, I wish there was a source list on the left with all of my saved requests that I could easily click through. I dont want to manage the files. Thanks!

wish you could halt a connection

Not a bad tool for 2bucks, but It would be really nice if after you hit send on a request you had the option to abort it. If you make a mistake you have to wait for your request to finish / time out before you can fix it. Really annoying.

Doesnt work

Got this app to test sending post data to a json serialization page. This app does nothing at all that it promises to do.

Simple & cheap, but minor bugs make it frustrating.

I like that its simple & cheap - it gets the job done without making you think. There are minor, weird bugs that make it very frustrating for prolonged use. It tells me I have a zero length response from my server when the body is empty and doesnt show me the response headers, which is what I want for those types of responses. Ive experienced weird issues selecting and editing the request headers… sometimes it just doesnt let me edit them. One thing thats a real pain is if your server is hanging, this app becomes unresponsive and takes forever to timeout - theres no way to cancel the request. Despite the annoyances, its still simple and works well-enough for 3-star OK.

Lacking, needs updating.

While its nice to use for small tasks, the POST body text area should be a sheet as its not large enough for working with XML or large bodies. The app also really needs to be updated to support versions. Other minor improvements would be great since its commerical now, such as cookie storage and management on a per document basis. Update: Two years later and I’ve finally given up on this developer updating his stuff. The other day I had data trailing my xmls closing tag, making it invalid XML. For some reason HTTPClient did not display that… causing me to think my API was okay and sending me down a different path troubleshooting. DONE. $rm -rf /Applications/HTTP Client.app

The right tool for the job

I’ve been using HTTP Client for years and have appreciated greatly its simplicity and stability. If you need to test an API quickly it’s the right tool for the job.
